Global Geocoding APIs
Search, validate, and reverse geocode addresses
Precise geocoding and fast address autocomplete search for places and POIs. SDKs integrate into navigation, delivery, real estate, and other applications.
What You Can Do
The Stadia Maps geocoding and autocomplete search APIs help you convert between places and geographic coordinates. Whether you need to search for addresses, validate user input, or reverse geocode a location, Stadia Maps provides comprehensive geocoding capabilities:
- Autocomplete Search v2: Build interactive search-as-you-type experiences (highly efficient)
- Autocomplete Search v1: Alternative autocomplete implementation maintained for backward compatibility
- Forward Geocoding: Search for places by name or address
- Structured Geocoding: Search using individual address components for precise matching
- Bulk Geocoding: Geocode thousands of addresses efficiently in a single request
- Reverse Geocoding: Find out what's at a given coordinate
- Place Lookup: Access detailed place information via geographic identifier (GID)
Each capability is available through REST APIs with predictable credit-based pricing and global coverage.
Use Cases & Applications
Stadia Maps APIs power applications across multiple industries:
- E-commerce & Shipping: Validate customer addresses, prevent shipping errors, geocode orders for logistics routing
- Real Estate: Convert property addresses to coordinates, search listings by location, validate address data
- Field Service & Logistics: Route field teams to job sites, optimize delivery routes, reverse geocode arrival locations
- Travel & Mobility: Search hotels and landmarks by address, power location-based recommendations
- Location Intelligence: Bulk geocode datasets for analysis, combine with routing for territory planning
- Mapping Applications: Enable users to search and navigate by address in interactive maps
All powered by our global geocoding database and accessible via multiple SDK languages for rapid integration.
Global Coverage & Reliability
Stadia Maps geocoding is powered by OpenStreetMap data and maintained by a community of mapping professionals. Our coverage spans:
- Global address support with highest coverage in North America, Europe, and major urban centers worldwide
- Regular updates as map data improves
- Reverse geocoding for any coordinate globally
- Structured geocoding for address component matching
Unlike user-tracking solutions, Stadia Maps doesn't collect telemetry or behavioral data. We're GDPR and CCPA compliant, with EU data centers available for organizations with data residency requirements.
Geocoding
Convert place names to coordinates and vice versa. Our geocoding API converts place names into geographic coordinates and vice versa, including reverse geocoding to turn coordinates into addresses, facilitating precise address-to-coordinate conversions and city or country lookups.

What's the difference between Autocomplete v1 and v2?
Autocomplete v2 is more efficient (1 credit vs 20 credits/request) and recommended for new projects. v1 is maintained for backward compatibility.
How accurate is the geocoding?
Accuracy depends on the quality of the input address and OpenStreetMap data coverage. Reverse geocoding returns the nearest known address or feature. For mission-critical applications, validate results and consider using Structured Geocoding for address component matching.
Can I cache geocoding results?
Yes. With Standard plans and above, you can store results permanently in your own database and read them back, enabling offline geocoding without repeated API calls.
Do you track user data?
No. Stadia Maps doesn't collect telemetry, track end users, or sell behavioral data. We're fully GDPR and CCPA compliant. See our privacy commitment for details.
What if I exceed my monthly credits?
If you've enabled additional usage, overages are billed at your plan's rate. If you haven't enabled overages, requests will return a 429 rate-limit error. Upgrade your plan anytime, and changes are prorated.
What are the API rate limits?
There's no fixed requests-per-second limit. Your constraint is monthly credits. Contact us if you need specialized rate-limit arrangements.
Can I store geocoding results?
Geocoding storage rights are the contractual terms governing whether you can save a returned coordinate in your own database and for how long. Most teams do not discover the restriction until they are already at scale. On Stadia Maps, permanent storage is included on Standard plans and above with no per-request surcharge. Learn more about storing geocoding results here.
What SDKs do you support?
Official SDKs in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Kotlin, Swift, and PHP. You can also generate clients in other languages using our OpenAPI specification and tools like openapi-generator.
Can I use this for commercial purposes?
Yes. The free plan is for non-commercial use only. Commercial use requires a paid subscription (starting at $20/month). Academic research qualifies for free tier if non-commercial.
What is the best geocoding API?
The right geocoding API depends on whether you need to store results, how much you geocode at once, which countries you operate in, and what your privacy obligations are. Stadia Maps is built for developers who prioritize these factors. Learn more about geocoding APIs here.
