Stadia Maps Attribution Requirements
Attribution text and guidelines
When using Stadia Maps, you're required to display attribution in your map interface for the data sources, map styles, and software components that power them.
The exact text varies by map style. Satellite imagery and Stamen styles require additional credits, detailed below.

Maps
Maps are built from map styles, vector map data, satellite imagery, and terrain data, rendered with the client libraries listed at the end of this section.
The vector tiles behind our map styles are built from the datasets and design components below.
OpenStreetMap
OpenStreetMap data is released under the Open Data Commons Open Database License. We are proud corporate members of the OpenStreetMap Foundation. OpenStreetMap Copyright and License information.
OpenMapTiles
OpenMapTiles code is released under the BSD 3-Clause License.
OpenMapTiles design released under CC BY 4.0.
Google Noto Fonts
Fonts released under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1.
Open Sans Font
Font released under the Apache License, Version 2.0.
Seoul Typeface
Fonts released with a permissive license, provided that the fonts are not distributed in exchange for money or any other commercial acts.
Map Styles
Each map style is built from a design, a base map data source, and in some cases imagery and fonts. The credits for each style are listed under its name.
Alidade Smooth
The Alidade Smooth style is derived from the Positron GL Style.
The Positron GL Style is derived from CartoDB Basemaps designed by Stamen and Paul Norman for CartoDB Inc., licensed under CC BY 3.0.
The Positron GL style's code is released under the BSD 3-Clause License.
The Positron GL Style's design is released under CC BY 4.0.
Alidade Satellite
The Alidade Satellite style incorporates some elements of the Alidade Smooth style. The imagery is also subject to copyright as noted in Satellite Imagery.
OSM Bright
The OSM Bright GL Style is derived from Mapbox Open Styles.
The OSM Bright GL Style's code is released under the BSD 3-Clause License.
The OSM Bright GL Style's design is released under CC BY 4.0.
Stamen Toner and Terrain
The Stamen MapLibre GL stylesheets for Toner, Terrain, and their respective layer groups (variations) are licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, with an additional license grant enabling commercial use and remixing with Stadia Maps' vector tiles by paid subscribers.
The design of the Stamen MapLibre styles is released under CC BY 4.0.
Stamen Watercolor
The raster map tiles served from Stadia Maps network after July 31, 2023 are subject to our standard Terms of Service. The original tiles served from the Stamen CDN and the Smithsonian collection are licensed under CC BY 4.0.
The OpenStreetMap data used in the generation of Stamen Watercolor tiles is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0.
The code for generating the Stamen Watercolor map tiles is licensed under the ISC license.
Satellite Imagery
Satellite imagery is protected by the copyright law detailed below and international copyright laws, as applicable.

The product and the satellite imagery data contained therein are further protected by articles L. 341-1 to 343-7 of the French Code of Intellectual Property Law, as amended, and by similar statutes in European countries that have incorporated EU Directive n° 96/9 of 11 March 1996 on database copyright into their laws.
Terrain and Elevation
Elevation datasets
We include elevation data from the following sources:
- ArcticDEM terrain data DEM(s) were created from DigitalGlobe, Inc., imagery funded under NSF awards 1043681, 1559691, and 1542736, and are released without limitation.
- Australia terrain data © Commonwealth of Australia (Geoscience Australia) 2017, licensed CC BY 4.0.
- Austria terrain data © offene Daten Österreichs – Digitales Geländemodell (DGM) Österreich, licensed CC BY 3.0 AT DEED.
- Canada terrain data contains information licensed under the Open Government License – Canada.
- Europe terrain data produced using Copernicus data funded by the European Union - EU-DEM layers.
- Global ETOPO1 terrain data U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
- Mexico terrain data source: INEGI, Continental relief, 2016, released under Mexico's free use of information act.
- New Zealand terrain data released under CC BY 4.0, LINZ January 2012.
- Norway terrain data © Kartverket, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
- United Kingdom terrain data © Environment Agency copyright and/or database right 2015, released under the Open Government License 3.0.
- United States 3DEP (formerly NED) and global GMTED2010 and SRTM terrain data courtesy of the U.S. Geological Survey, and are available in the public domain.
